Woman's World Columns
and General Features

I was the long-time Business Editor of Woman's World, the largest-circulation weekly women's magazine in the United States. Woman's World is owned by what is now called the Bauer Media Group (formerly Heinrich Bauer Limited), in Hamburg, Germany. Because Woman's World is geared to a very wide audience of women, rather than to a small elite, writing for them was especially rewarding, as my task was researching and then translating complicated material into formats and language every reader could understand and appreciate.

Although I was, by my own choice, not based in-house, I contributed about 175 articles to Woman's World each year: a weekly Consumer Finance piece, a weekly Careers column, and 1-2 additional stories per week, which could be classified as General Features. Among the wide-ranging topics covered in these features were true crime, true romance, health and beauty, investigative articles, and miscellaneous human interest pieces. Below are 30 of my Woman's World columns and longer pieces, chosen to represent the range of stories I contributed.

My weekly Consumer Finance columns
for Woman's World, under the heading Dollars & Sense, covered the widest range of financial topics imaginable, including investments, mortgages, budgeting, taxes, collectibles, banking, and household management tips.

My weekly Careers Column for Woman's World, called On the Job, was among the most popular features in the magazine. The examples above, covering such then-trendy topics as job sharing,  corporate culture, and making the transition from teaching to other careers, are typical of the range of stories the column covered.

The above selection of my General Features from Woman's World illustrates the exceptionally wide range of stories I might be assigned, from Hollywood-oriented pieces like the one on celebrities' teenage jobs to serious investigative pieces like the article on workplace safety, from human interest heart-tuggers like the piece on the elderly lady who feeds wild geese to true crime stories like the one on parental abductions.
